Condolence meeting was held on 5th floor auditorium of Tower 1 block in memory of Late. Prof. Dr. K.V Thiruvengadam on 3.10.2020. The meeting was headed by the Respected DEAN of MMC. Dr. Thiruvengadam had been a physician, in consultation practice in internal medicine, chest diseases, asthma and allergies for nearly 45 years. Dr. Thiruvengadam served for 31 years in the Madras Medical Service as a medical teacher. He has got innumerble awards like Padma Shri award (1981). He had been recognized as a medical teacher by the Medical Council of India, with the Dr. B. C. Roy Award for eminent medical teacher, and he had been regent for the International College of Chest Physicians for India. Tributes were paidin the meeting to Prof. Dr. K.V Thiruvengadam by all the attendees.
Honourable Health minister inaugrated a rehabilitation ward for destitute who visit RGGGH for treatment. It is a 40 bedded ward . Hospital provides surgical and medical treatment for accident and trauma patients who do not have family or friends to take care of them. Post recovery care would be given to these patients by Doctors and Nurses in the Rehabilitation ward. After that they will be shifted to care centres where they can live a quality life. A healing garden which has a walking path and herbal garden was also inaugrated by our Honourable Health Minister within the RGGGH garden for cancer patients. Director of Medical Education Dr. Narayana Babu and Dean of Madras Medical College Dr. Theranirrajan were present at the inaugration.
CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS AT INSTITUTE OF PATHOLOGY The Institute of Pathology has made gradual progress in its diagnostic & academic fields. Electron Microscopy was a major feature with many research activities underway, In the year 2015, Cytogenetics workstation was commissioned.From 2016, screening of PAP smear for the newly opened Master Health Checkup facility. New Diagnostic Modalities like Immunofluorescence, ImmunoHistoChemistry were added and became full-fledged since 2017.In the academic front:In 2010 Post Graduate seats increased from 4-10 Master Degree with 8 Diploma in clinical pathology.In 2019 MD seats increased from 10-18 and all DCP seats are converted to MD Since 2017, MD pathology students have been the university topper continuously from 2017-2019.Year 2020was a landmark year for the Institute and the state. The Institute of Pathology was accredited with the ISO 15189:2012by the NABL(National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories)on the 4thfebruary 2020, This achievement was possible only by the management support given by (formerDean) Dr.R.Jayanthi MD& Current Dean Dr.E.Theranirajan MD, Dr.J.Bharathi Vidhya Jayanthi MD, Director, Institute of Pathology and the untiring efforts of theallfaculty, technical staffs& post graduates for past 2 years spearheaded by the relentless contribution of Dr.S.Subitha,MD Assistant Professor of Pathology. This is the First Pathology Laboratory in the state government to attain this milestone.
